This double strand of creamy white pearls is meticulously hand-knotted on white silk and finished with an opulent 18k gold and diamond clasp. The oval clasp is encrusted with .60tcw of tiny VS clarity and (very) white F-G color diamonds, then framed in gold rope detail. The quality of these pearls is apparent; they are well-matched with glossy nacre. The clasp is signed "JKa J. Kohle" for Kohle & Co., a German company particularly known for its fabulous clasps. Circa 1970.

Pearls were first cultured in 1893 by Mikimoto. Cultured pearls are created by adding an irritant, such as a grain of sand or small bead, to a pearl oyster to encourage it to cover the irritant in nacre, thus creating a pearl.

Details.....The necklace is 20" long, the pearls measure 7.7mm in diameter, and the clasp is .90" by .65". In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it a part of the charm.
