This ancient Roman coin dates to the reign of Constantine the Great. The small copper follis (a Late Empire coin of little monetary value) has been converted into a necklace. The coin's obverse depicts the Emperor Constantine in a right-facing bust. He is shown laureate, helmeted and mantled. The coin appears to bear the inscription "IMP CONSTANTINVS PF AVG," which translates indirectly to "Emperor Constantine the Pious and Fortunate." The coin's reverse depicts two victories, facing each other over an alter. It has the legend "VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP," which translates to "Joyous victory to the eternal Prince." This interesting coin was in circulation in the 330s A.D. It is displayed on a stamped 18k yellow gold decorative bale. The modern rope chain is 14k recycled yellow gold.
We have spent hours researching the origins of this coin; however, numismatics is a complicated subject that one could spend a lifetime studying. We are pretty darn sure, but not 100% certain, that the above information is accurate.
Details.....The chain is 18" long. The coin measures 17.5mm by 17.2mm, 27mm with bale. In Very Good Antique Condition, the coin shows wear in keeping with its great age. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces, we consider it part of the charm.
