A fascinating ancient Roman coin dating to the reign of Constantine the Great. The small copper follis (a Late Empire coin of little monetary value) has been converted into a necklace. The coin's obverse depicts Constantine I as a draped and cuirassed right-facing bust, wearing a floral diadem. It appears to bear the legend "CONSTANTINVS MAX AVG," which translates indirectly to "Constantine the Great." The coin's reverse depicts two soldiers standing on either side of a Roman standard. It is inscribed "GLORIA EXERCITVS," which translates to "Dedicated to the Glory of the Army." This pretty coin was in circulation in the 330s A.D. It is displayed on a stamped 18k yellow gold decorative bale. The modern rope chain is 14k recycled yellow gold.

We have spent hours researching the origins of this coin; however, numismatics is a complicated subject that one could spend a lifetime studying. We are pretty darn sure, but not 100% certain, that the above information is accurate.

Details.....The chain is 18" long. The coin measures 16.4mm by 16mm, 24.4mm with bale. In Very Good Antique Condition, the coin shows wear in keeping with its great age. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces, we consider it part of the charm.
